About the position

At Allianz Commercial (AzC), we are seeking a Senior Underwriter - Property to join our team in Alpharetta, Georgia. This role is pivotal in underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet Property Line of Business (LoB) targets, adhering to established underwriting guidelines and authority. The Senior Underwriter will report directly to the Regional Property Leader - South and will be responsible for negotiating prices, terms, and conditions while managing key accounts and fostering strong relationships with producers and clients in collaboration with Market Management. In this position, you will underwrite new and renewal accounts, ensuring that both top and bottom-line targets are met. You will negotiate participation, pricing, and terms with brokers, while proactively managing capacity and evaluating Natural Catastrophe Accumulation. A strong understanding of catastrophe modeling and the ability to interpret various scenarios relevant to the LoBs is essential. You will also be responsible for underwriting International Insurance Programs and ensuring compliance with the LoB governance framework, including Underwriting Authorities and global guidelines. Your role will involve ensuring contract certainty at the inception of all accounts, utilizing global pricing tools, and maintaining accurate policy documentation. You will support policy administration and credit control processes, contribute to the development and execution of the regional Underwriting strategy, and play a key role in training and mentoring less experienced staff. Additionally, you will manage standard referrals and re-underwrite complex business as necessary, while actively supporting the acquisition of new business and retention of existing clients. As a representative of AzC, you will engage with the market and drive collaboration with functional areas involved in the Underwriting process, including Claims and Operations. Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom-line targets (local and/or regional).
  • Negotiate participation, pricing, and terms and conditions with brokers.
  • Proactively manage capacity and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation.
  • Underwrite International Insurance Programs for relevant LoBs.
  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception.
  • Utilize global pricing tools effectively.
  • Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to brokers or maintained appropriately.
  • Maintain file documentation for each risk and transaction handled.
  • Support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB.
  • Train, develop, and coach less experienced staff, including junior underwriters and operations staff.
  • Manage standard referrals from underwriters and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate.
  • Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business.
  • Liaise with MMC on market management initiatives.
  • Represent AzC positively to the market and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years' proven track record in underwriting profitable Property business.
  • Understanding of LoB products and portfolio.
  • Established relationships with brokers at peer group level.
  • Good understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • Experience working in a complex, global matrix organization.
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB.
  • Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, and credit control.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferably a bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • Experience with commercial property, large property, corporate property, shared and layered property insurance products.
