About the position

The Senior Underwriter for Excess - Wholesale at AXA XL is responsible for managing an existing portfolio of Excess and Surplus (E&S) business while supporting the strategic goals of the region. This role involves building and maintaining strong broker relationships, developing new products, and ensuring profitability through effective underwriting practices. The position requires independent decision-making and the ability to cultivate key partnerships to drive business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the successful execution of the region's strategic plan with a focus on assigned territory.
  • Handling an existing portfolio of E&S Excess business, meeting growth goals and ensuring profitability for the region.
  • Supporting and aiding in the development of new products based on experience.
  • Creating visibility in the assigned territory by communicating underwriting appetite and generating new opportunities through broker relationships.
  • Working independently with granted underwriting authority based on experience level.
  • Cultivating key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within underwriting appetite.
  • Providing clients with service that supports the positive image of the company.
  • Building partnerships with other core lines to aid cross-sell opportunities.
  • Cross-marketing with other XL lines and meeting with brokers and insureds as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience.
  • Moderate amount of E&S Excess Underwriting Experience.
  • Outstanding existing marketing relationships within the assigned territory with experience in production underwriting role.
  • In-depth underwriting expertise across general classes and ability to manage a high volume portfolio.
  • Self-starter who is organized and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
