About the position

Join us as a Senior Underwriting Specialist to step up to a key team leadership role that will drive business growth. AIG underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, Multinational Clients, and High Net Worth individuals. We are reimagining how we help customers to manage risk, transforming our operating model, and reshaping our role responsibilities and career pathways. The goal is to unlock the full potential in each colleague - empowering our people to grow as insurance professionals and add more value to our customers and AIG. This is a key role in our Excess Casualty team in which you will take ownership for achieving goals and outcomes. You will be tasked with overseeing a range of programs and processes, in addition to handling complex underwriting. You will thrive by successfully balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, judgment, and a risk mindset. It will be essential to build effective relationships with brokers and to deliver a high standard of customer service as an example for the team to follow. You will promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and learning while mentoring and developing colleagues through effective leadership, role modeling, and training programs. You will aim to facilitate personal growth and career development, supporting succession planning. You will also play a key role in new business development, including attending broker events and building new relationships across the market.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a range of programs and processes related to Excess Casualty underwriting.
  • Handle complex underwriting tasks and make sound decisions using data and analysis.
  • Build effective relationships with brokers and deliver high standards of customer service.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and learning within the team.
  • Mentor and develop junior colleagues through effective leadership and training programs.
  • Facilitate personal growth and career development for team members.
  • Participate in new business development and attend broker events to build relationships.

Requirements

  • Proven underwriting experience in Excess Casualty.
  • Successful record of selling Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty products to clients.
  • Deep technical expertise in underwriting.
  • Proven people management skills and a record of developing junior colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements effectively.
  • Strong communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Customer and sales-oriented behaviors: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.
