About the position

The Senior Unit Information Security Specialist at UCLA's Office of Information Security plays a crucial role in enhancing the institution's information security programs. This position involves collaborating with various organizations to assess their information security needs, developing and implementing security programs and practices, and ensuring compliance with campus security standards. The specialist will also facilitate effective communication regarding security policies and initiatives, ultimately contributing to the protection of institutional data and supporting UCLA's academic mission.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with assigned organizations to analyze information security needs.
  • Define programs, processes, and practices that conform to campus security standards.
  • Provide guidance and support for the implementation of security technologies and services.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding policies and initiatives within assigned organizations.
  • Coordinate with customer groups and IT Services to deliver security services and capabilities.
  • Protect University stakeholders' information and data in service of the institution's academic mission.
  • Model UCLA's culture and values while executing the University's vision.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or related fields.
  • Proven experience using IT systems and tools.
  • Experience in a project-based environment with project management practices.
  • Experience in promoting an inclusive environment valuing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Strong understanding of Information Security fundamentals.
  • Advanced knowledge of privacy and security regulations relevant to higher education.
  • Knowledge of data classification and ability to educate on requirements.
  • Understanding of the relationship between threat, vulnerability, and information value.
  • Ability to coordinate with other Information Security teams to address security incidents.
  • Understanding of user lifecycle access activities and identity management controls.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with a diverse community.
  • Advanced organizational skills to manage competing priorities and projects.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills to address complex issues.
  • Demonstrated integrity in decision-making.
  • Ability to think creatively and introduce innovations in technology or processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Seven or more years of experience in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or related fields.
  • One or more relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISA, Security+, CEH, CISM.
