About the position

The Expedia User Experience Research team is seeking a talented Senior User Experience Researcher to join their ranks. This pivotal role involves planning, coordinating, and executing comprehensive research studies that will directly influence the user experience across Expedia's global product teams. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make significant changes that positively impact customers worldwide, all while working from the company's headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. In this role, the researcher will engage in a variety of applied user research activities, including running lab tests, conducting quantitative data analysis, performing eye-tracking studies, competitive benchmarking, and UI reviews. A key aspect of the position is to effectively manage the trade-offs between business needs and customer benefits, ensuring that both are adequately addressed in the research findings. The researcher will consolidate both quantitative and qualitative research to inform various aspects of product development, including requirements definition, content strategy, wireframes, and visual and interaction design. The Senior User Experience Researcher will also identify opportunities to enhance the user experience by leveraging site analytics and independent research. Collaboration with stakeholders is essential, as the researcher will outline research plans and ensure the quality of user research conducted. Additionally, the role involves managing vendor-based research projects and leading core strategic research initiatives. The researcher will be responsible for consolidating research findings from multiple sources into concise, actionable insights for stakeholders, while also establishing global standards and processes around user research.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute research studies for Expedia.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years experience conducting user research including usability testing, site visits, analytics-based analysis, competitive benchmarking, UI reviews, and online studies.
  • Bachelor or Master in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a related area.
  • Solid understanding of research methodologies and literature in the user research field.
  • Familiarity with agile product development processes, particularly in e-commerce usability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others and forge strong working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with international research is a plus.
  • Ability to articulate the value and ROI of research efforts.
