About the position

PayPal is seeking a Senior UX Researcher who is passionate about driving customer-centric decisions throughout the product development lifecycle. This role involves conducting early research to understand customer needs and problems, continuing through design definition and prototyping, and conducting post-launch research to inform future iterations. The researcher will employ a variety of qualitative and mixed methods research approaches, including card sorting, tree tests, diary studies, surveys, interviews, and usability testing. The goal is to start with the right questions and end with continuous storytelling that shapes product strategy. As a proactive member of a cross-functional product team, the Senior UX Researcher will identify research opportunities that inform product and design strategy, scope project requirements, and communicate their approach clearly. They will independently execute research studies from beginning to end, which includes identifying the right research questions, defining participant samples, choosing methodologies, designing studies, and executing them with attention to detail and quality. The researcher will present compelling insights and recommendations to multiple teams and leaders across the organization, driving customer-centric decisions. The role also requires a clear understanding of how various research functions and data sources contribute to the product development lifecycle and how to integrate them into their work. The Senior UX Researcher will act as a vital liaison between design, product management, and marketing teams, championing the voice of the customer in workshops and design sprints. They will advocate for user-centric approaches, pilot new workflows, and explore best practices that evolve the craft of UX research. A growth mindset is essential, as the researcher will actively seek feedback, experiment with new approaches, and work to expand their skillset.

Responsibilities

  • Identify research opportunities that inform product and design strategy.

Requirements

  • Masters, Bachelors, or Professional degree backed by 3+ years of experience in design, research, or related fields.
  • Proficient in a variety of research methods and approaches, including in-depth interviews, diary studies, usability testing, card sorts, tree tests, and survey design and analysis.
  • Experience in financial services, ecommerce, or related industries preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mixed methods research approaches.
