About the position

The Senior UX/UI Web Designer will play a crucial role in enhancing user experiences across web and mobile applications for Pinellas County. This position involves leading the design process, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that web applications are user-friendly, accessible, and aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in UX/UI design and web development, with a focus on delivering innovative solutions that serve the community effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design process by conducting user research and creating personas, wireframes, sitemaps, user flows, and prototypes.
  • Create visually compelling user interfaces that align with brand guidelines for web and mobile platforms.
  • Develop basic front-end website builds using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on accessibility.
  • Utilize drag-and-drop builders on platforms like WordPress and Wix to create accessible and responsive websites.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to understand project goals and user requirements.
  • Conduct usability testing sessions and refine designs based on user feedback.
  • Maintain and improve the organization's design system for consistency across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG).
  • Manage multiple complex projects and communicate effectively with peers and management.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to various audiences.

Requirements

  • 8 years of professional experience in UX/UI design and web application development, with a portfolio demonstrating responsive web designs and mobile applications, preferably in the public sector.
  • Associate's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 6 years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 2 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work a variety of schedules, including during emergencies or disasters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience creating a design system and applying it to multiple websites and digital products.
  • Experience with mobile-first and responsive design techniques.
  • Familiarity with content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, Wix, and Squarespace.
  • Knowledge of front-end frameworks like Bootstrap or Tailwind.
  • Desire for self-development in relevant job-related skills.
