About the position

As a Senior UX Writer and Content Designer for Payments at Google, you will play a pivotal role in shaping product experiences through the creation of meaningful and useful text that assists users in completing their tasks. Your work will involve setting the vision for content and driving cohesive product narratives across various platforms and touchpoints. You will be expected to demonstrate your writing prowess through a portfolio that showcases your ability to simplify and enhance the overall user experience. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, including UX researchers, product managers, engineers, and marketing teams, to establish a unified voice and cohesive language across products. Your approach will be informed by empathy, logic, and data, allowing you to make content choices that resonate with users. You will provide content recommendations that not only include the right words but also incorporate relevant data and images to enhance user understanding. Your responsibilities will extend beyond writing; you will act as a content strategist, defining product vision and narratives while managing complex, cross-functional projects. You will also provide mentorship to junior writers and support your peers in their content endeavors. The Payments team at Google is dedicated to making payment processes simple, seamless, and secure, and your contributions will be essential in achieving this goal. This position offers a competitive salary range of $134,000 to $198,000, along with bonuses, equity, and benefits. The salary is determined by various factors, including location, skills, experience, and education. Responsibilities

  • Use writing and content design skills to create UI text that facilitates user navigation, onboarding, promos, error messages, instructional materials, and other components of the end-to-end user experience.
  • Drive vision for product language and content across a product or subject-matter domain, ensuring cohesive product narratives; document strategies with guidelines, and establish best practices and strategy principles.
  • Manage projects from needs assessment to implementation; identify opportunities, establish priorities, secure resources, and manage stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, legal, marketing, product managers, and engineers; influence and adapt to stakeholders and their feedback.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to junior UX writers and educate cross-functional partners on the role of UX writing and content strategy throughout the product development process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Literature, Business, Marketing, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in writing, editorial, marketing, UX writing, content design, or related, as well as leading content strategy projects.
  • Experience on UX-focused product writing and shaping content for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience interacting with executive leadership.
  • 5 years of writing, editorial, marketing, or UX writing experience in an agency setting.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional technology organization.
  • Experience developing information architecture for complex documentation sets or product suites, including localization and accessibility best practices.
  • Knowledge of online technology and related products, including web and mobile UI and tools.
  • Familiarity with user experience research principles and practices and how to use data to provide informed user insights.
