About the position

As a UX writer at Google, you will play a crucial role in advocating for design by shaping product experiences through the creation of useful and meaningful text that assists users in completing tasks. Your primary responsibility will be to set the vision for content and drive cohesive product narratives across various platforms and touchpoints. Your portfolio should showcase your ability to simplify and enhance the overall user experience through stellar writing. You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals in UX design-related roles, including researchers, product managers, engineers, and marketing teams, to establish a unified voice and cohesive language across products and platforms. In this role, you will regularly employ empathy, logic, and data to inform your content choices and recommendations, ensuring that the right words, along with complementary data and images, are used effectively. The team you will be part of builds the core surfaces and workflows on Connect Sales, which are essential for helping Google Ads sellers achieve their goals. The mission of the team is to provide intelligence and assistance through a platform that manages the lifecycle for all Google Ads customers, driving customer success, margin expansion, and seller effectiveness. You will contribute to enabling advertisers worldwide to succeed in their business by creating trusted experiences between people and businesses through useful ads. Google Ads is committed to powering the open internet with cutting-edge technology that connects and creates value for users, publishers, advertisers, and Google itself. The teams within Google Ads are responsible for building a range of advertising products, including search, display, shopping, travel, and video advertising, as well as analytics. Your work will help grow businesses of all sizes, from small enterprises to large brands and YouTube creators, by providing effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. The compensation for this full-time position includes a base salary range of $134,000 to $198,000, along with bonuses, equity, and benefits, which will be discussed further during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Help build and maintain guidelines and documents that reflect evolving content, terminology, standards, and weave user insights, engineering, and platform constraints, and business needs into proposals.
  • Provide strategic direction, create clear user experiences across multiple platforms, and document and articulate the reasoning behind decisions to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, influence on content design strategies, communicate, and seek feedback from design and writing teammates.
  • Shape content experiences within ambiguous workflows, understand product constraints and advocate for user needs, set realistic expectations, manage time effectively, and utilize prioritization tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Literature, Business, Marketing, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in writing, editorial, marketing, UX writing, content design, or related, as well as leading content strategy projects.
  • Experience on UX-focused product writing and shaping content for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Portfolio highlighting UX-focused writing samples and style guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience in user experience or content design, with the ability to work in ambiguity and drive projects forward.
  • Experience working with UX research to find new opportunities, test and iterate ideas based on insights from formative research, analysis of quantitative data, and from user testing.
  • Ability to solve content design problems, advocate for quality, and maintain a pragmatic approach to delivery.
  • Excellent design process and organization skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, meet project deadlines, and communicate to a broad range of audiences.
