About the position

The Senior VFX Artist for World of Warcraft will be responsible for creating visually compelling effects such as explosions, spells, and ambient world effects. This role serves as a crucial link between art and design, ensuring that gameplay ideas are effectively communicated through visual storytelling. The ideal candidate will possess strong hand-painted texturing skills and a solid understanding of timing, motion, shape language, and 3D composition, contributing to the high-quality handcrafted art that the WoW Art team is known for. This position is hybrid, allowing for both on-site and remote work options.

Responsibilities

• Create spells, creature attacks, explosions, and other VFX animations in the World of Warcraft VFX style.
• Demonstrate strong hand-painted texturing skills that fit within the larger world.
• Prototype and create block-out VFX.
• Collaborate closely with other artists.
• Communicate effectively with Production, Design, and Outsource vendors.

Requirements

• Some level of experience developing particle systems and geometry-based visual effects.
• Understanding of real-time game development needs.
• Self-driven, passionate, creative problem solver with a team-first attitude.
• Ability to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the World of Warcraft style.
• Ability to identify, mentor, and grow talent.
• Clear and concise communicator, able to deliver complex creative feedback.
