About the position

As a Senior Vice President, Application Oracle DBA Manager at BNY, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Production Services team. This position is designed for a seasoned professional with over 10 years of experience in database administration, specifically with Oracle databases. You will be responsible for managing and administering Oracle 19c databases within the application environment, ensuring their optimal performance and availability. Your role will involve close collaboration with various application teams, participating in code deployments, debugging issues, and addressing vulnerabilities to enhance resilience. In addition to technical expertise, you will be expected to motivate and inspire your team, acting as a cultural change agent to promote best practices and continuous improvement in database operations. You will also be tasked with identifying and resolving performance issues through thorough analysis and collaboration with application teams. Your ability to communicate effectively with team members, application development leads, and stakeholders will be crucial in understanding requirements and supporting critical business applications. The role requires a willingness to participate in a rotating 24x7 production support schedule, ensuring that critical database issues are promptly addressed to minimize downtime. Familiarity with monitoring technologies such as Splunk, App Dynamics, and Moog will be essential for proactively managing database performance and diagnosing issues. Additionally, knowledge of how AI can be leveraged to increase work throughput will be considered an advantage. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the DBA team, assessing and motivating team members while prioritizing their career paths.
  • Provide primary Level 1 support as an Application DBA, collaborating with various application teams during code deployments and debugging issues.
  • Administer and manage Oracle 19c databases, ensuring optimal performance and availability within the application environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, application development leads, and stakeholders to understand requirements and resolve issues.
  • Act as a motivator and cultural change agent, inspiring the team to embrace best practices and continuous improvement in database operations.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues through thorough analysis and recommend changes to optimize performance in collaboration with application teams.
  • Utilize Oracle tools effectively for monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting Oracle databases and related components.
  • Familiarize with monitoring technologies such as Splunk, App Dynamics, and Moog to proactively manage database performance.
  • Collaborate closely with application development leads to design and support critical business applications, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance with the database.
  • Participate in a rotating 24x7 production support schedule, addressing and resolving critical database issues promptly.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, specifically with Oracle databases.
  • Strong understanding of Oracle 19c databases and familiarity with Oracle tools such as OEM, SQL Developer, and TOAD.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to motivate and drive cultural change within a team.
  • Experience working closely with application development leads in designing and supporting critical business applications.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting performance issues and recommending changes to application teams.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24x7 production support rotation.
  • Knowledge of AI applications to increase work throughput is a plus.
