About the position

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Collections at OCCU is a transformative and visionary leader responsible for enhancing loss mitigation results and member experience strategies. This role involves setting strategic direction for Credit Services functions, including collections processes, asset recovery, and bankruptcy management, while leading organizational change and ensuring operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead through OCCU's vision and values, motivating action in others and recognizing achievements.
  • Drive organizational changes needed to adapt to market demands and technology.
  • Execute strategic decision-making by monitoring industry information and evaluating organizational gaps.
  • Translate strategic priorities into operational reality with clear action steps and success metrics.
  • Monitor results over time to ensure strategies are effectively carried out and adjusted as needed.
  • Develop human resources capabilities to support current and future business needs.
  • Coach and develop teams, providing feedback and guidance for skill enhancement.
  • Initiate and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders to drive innovation.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans for OCCU.
  • Lead the performance of Collections and Credit Services functions, ensuring budget compliance.
  • Oversee external partners providing collection services, monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Maintain understanding of collections laws and regulations to minimize legal referrals.
  • Continuously evaluate collections products and services for high performance.
  • Analyze the collection function and provide reporting and recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • A minimum of ten years of collections management experience.
  • Experience in a production-based environment with a focus on member and staff experience.
  • High understanding of collections compliance and legal implications.
  • Experience managing a diverse loan portfolio nationwide.
  • Experience in consumer, real estate, credit card, and commercial collections.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Well-reasoned decision-making skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing workloads and tasks.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree/MBA preferred.
