About the position

The Senior Vice President of Operations will play a pivotal role in leading the manufacturing efforts of a significant mass manufacturing company specializing in outdoor products. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in manufacturing operations, particularly in Lean transformation and Six Sigma implementation. The SVP will oversee all aspects of manufacturing operations, ensuring that production, warehouse, shipping, quality, and safety are optimized to maximize efficiencies of equipment, materials, and personnel. In this role, the SVP will drive continuous improvement initiatives and lean transformation efforts to create world-class manufacturing processes. The focus will be on enhancing quality, reducing costs, and shortening lead times, all while managing the budget for manufacturing operations, including capital expenditures and labor costs. The SVP will analyze financial and operational data to maximize revenue and profitability, ensuring that the company remains competitive in the market. Team development is a critical aspect of this role. The SVP will foster a motivated and high-performing culture, providing feedback and suggestions to improve performance across all areas. Collaborating with executive leadership and HR, the SVP will ensure that compensation plans and incentive programs are structured to drive productivity and maintain high employee satisfaction. Additionally, the SVP will actively recruit top talent and mentor team members in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies, aligning with the company's strategic goals. The SVP will also be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to inventory control processes, evaluating and integrating new technologies in manufacturing, and maintaining compliance with industry laws and standards. Regular evaluation of business productivity and operational performance will be essential to identify areas for improvement, and the SVP will oversee the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the operations team. Overall, this position requires a leader who can foster collaboration across departments and ensure cohesive operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct daily manufacturing operations including production, warehouse, shipping, quality, and safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean transformation to create world-class manufacturing processes.
  • Manage the budget for manufacturing operations, including capital expenditures, labor, and headcount.
  • Develop and promote a motivated, positive, and high-performing culture.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and HR to ensure compensation plans and incentive programs are structured to drive productivity.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing, capable team by actively recruiting top talent.
  • Mentor and develop direct and indirect reports, enhancing leadership skills and promoting continuous professional growth.
  • Ensure strict adherence to inventory control processes to maintain best-in-class inventory accuracy.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including overseeing Engineering and Supply Chain.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies in manufacturing processes to support quality and innovation.
  • Maintain acute awareness of market and customer trends to adapt production strategies effectively.
  • Play a key role in negotiating contracts and agreements essential for operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all manufacturing operations comply with industry laws and standards.
  • Regularly evaluate business productivity and operational performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the operations team.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment across all departments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a business, engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of practical experience in manufacturing operations of complex composite and precision metal manufacturing products.
  • A minimum of 10 years in a senior management role overseeing large teams (100+ employees).
  • Demonstrates superior organizational and time management capabilities essential for managing a complex, multi-faceted operation.
  • Self-starter who is well-organized, detail-oriented, creative, and possesses excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong acumen in business management, finance, supply chain logistics, and employee relations.
  • Excellent leadership skills and team player, capable of effective collaboration and delegation.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train employees with diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in business management software such as Infor ERP.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead major operational initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication abilities, capable of effectively presenting strategic and operational updates.
