About the position

The New York Times is seeking a skilled video journalist specializing in cinematography to join the Times Opinion team, specifically for The Ezra Klein Show. This role involves managing the technical aspects of video production, including shooting, lighting, and post-production editing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cinematography, a strong understanding of camera systems, and the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high aesthetic standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage video production of The Ezra Klein Show.
  • Plan shoots for all episodes, including camera, lensing, and lighting equipment.
  • Lead cinematography and maintain aesthetic standards of the show.
  • Oversee and supervise second camera operators and producers during shoots.
  • Collaborate with producers to select optimal shooting locations.
  • Work with the video editor to ensure efficient workflow from production to post-production.
  • Coordinate with audio engineers to ensure high-quality audio capture.
  • Produce high-quality video independently while mentoring junior staff members.
  • Support and uphold the value of journalistic independence.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of cinematography and/or video journalism experience.
  • Ability to edit quickly with Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.

  • Ability to shoot excellent video in new and complex situations.
  • Proven track record of solid editorial judgment aligned with The Times' ethics.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines and in high-stress situations.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage complex schedules.

Benefits

  • Annual base pay salary between $122,529.36 and $130,000.00.
