About the position

The Senior Videographer at George Mason University is responsible for creating short format video content that supports the university's brand initiatives. This role involves conceptualizing and producing videos for various platforms, including the university homepage, social media, and major events. The Senior Videographer will also manage video production equipment and collaborate with a team to ensure high-quality video output that aligns with the university's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Creates video and multimedia that enhances the university's image and brand.
  • Works with leadership to determine project priorities and develops storyboards.
  • Collaborates with video staff to coordinate shooting schedules and manage talent and crew.
  • Acts as cinematographer for various video productions, including marketing and social media content.
  • Manages set-up and tear down of equipment and lighting, ensuring production stays on schedule.
  • Supervises the Video Editor and student workers, focusing on skill sharing and professional development.
  • Edits video projects to align with approved concepts and brand parameters.
  • Delivers final video products on time and to specifications, ensuring quality and organization of footage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in multimedia, film studies, or equivalent experience in film production or digital imaging.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in video production, ideally in an academic or non-profit setting.
  • Experience in translating marketing messages into visual communications.
  • Advanced user of multimedia software like Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Premiere, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Strong video/audio editing and multimedia composition skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Physical ability to handle bulky equipment in various conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to create effective storyboards and visual compositions.
  • Mid- to advanced-level skills with composition and editing software.
