About the position

Pioneer Square Labs (PSL) is seeking a Senior Visual Designer to join our dynamic team in Seattle. As a startup studio and early-stage venture capital fund, we focus on developing innovative software and service companies in the Pacific Northwest. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in branding, web, and packaging design to create compelling brand identities for new businesses alongside world-class founders. Your work will encompass a variety of design disciplines, including brand identity development, marketing collateral creation, and product design, all aimed at driving customer engagement and market adoption. In your capacity as a Senior Visual Designer, you will participate in ideation sessions for new company creation, collaborating closely with the PSL core team and spinout founders. Your responsibilities will include synthesizing customer feedback to inform design decisions, building test brands, and delivering creative advertising messaging that resonates with target audiences. You will also engage in early-stage brand workshops, creating mood boards and brand identity options that reflect the core values of each business. Your role will extend to developing marketing deliverables, such as brochure designs, marketing websites, and promotional materials. You will work with CEOs to visually communicate their companies' values and contribute to the PSL brand and social media presence. Additionally, you will participate in product design, conducting voice of customer interviews and iterating on concepts based on user research and market trends. Your ability to translate brand tenets into elegant user interface designs will be crucial in ensuring a consistent and intuitive experience across digital products.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in new company creation ideation sessions
  • Collaborate with core team members on new concept development
  • Synthesize voice of customer learnings to drive concept affinity
  • Build test brands and analyze data through the validation framework
  • Deliver creative advertising messaging to test value propositions
  • Engage in early-stage brand workshops including naming and brand attribute definition
  • Create mood boards and brand identity options that reflect brand values
  • Extend and apply brand identities across product and marketing channels
  • Execute key business design needs in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Help founders articulate their mission, vision, and values
  • Create brand books, style guides, and documentation for brand systems
  • Drive brochure marketing website design and development in Webflow
  • Design unique marketing swag such as t-shirts and business cards
  • Build presentation decks with CEOs to communicate company values
  • Collaborate with the go-to-market team on conversion funnel design
  • Contribute to PSL's brand, website, and social media presence
  • Conduct voice of customer interviews to inform brand values
  • Iterate on initial concepts, prototypes, and detailed designs based on user research
  • Concept and design prototypes for a magical user experience
  • Translate brand tenets into user interface design
  • Communicate design guidelines and patterns for consistent user experiences

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant brand and user interface design experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication Design or related field
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools
  • Experience working in a highly iterative and collaborative environment
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively with developers for design implementation
  • Strong time management skills and ability to weigh tradeoffs
  • Proven track record of designing world-class experiences
  • Passion for visual identity and branding
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability to various design spaces

Nice-to-haves

  • Efficiency or excitement to learn Webflow
  • Experience in creating marketing collateral for startups
  • Familiarity with customer validation frameworks
