About the position

The Senior Web Designer at Merrell.com is a pivotal role that combines creativity with strategic thinking to enhance the digital presence of the brand. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about digital design and user experience, capable of both directing and executing design across various media types, including web, animated GIFs, and video. The Senior Web Designer will collaborate closely with teams across ecommerce, UX, marketing, and branding to elevate the consumer experience across all digital touchpoints. This role is not just about design; it’s about creating a cohesive and engaging brand experience that drives ecommerce revenue growth. In this role, the designer will be responsible for the overall design and oversight of the website, ensuring that it aligns with the brand's creative expression. This includes site design, user experience, email campaigns, digital advertisements, direct mail, and exploring emerging channels that support ecommerce initiatives. The Senior Web Designer will guide team members through the digital creative process, working in tandem with the creative director to maintain a consistent brand vision and adhere to established guidelines. The position requires the creation of various digital content types, including web graphics, infographics, social media advertising, video content, and animated GIFs. The designer will also lead and coordinate seasonal photoshoots with external vendors to produce high-quality product imagery that enhances brand content. A strong focus on results-oriented design and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement are essential, as the designer will be expected to bring a spirit of experimentation to elevate the consumer experience. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Senior Web Designer will work with the performance marketing team to develop compelling digital content aimed at increasing return on ad spend (ROAS) and optimizing marketing campaigns. Additionally, the designer will partner with internal teams to ideate and execute test scenarios that enhance user experience and engagement across all digital channels. Staying current with the latest design trends, tools, and processes is crucial to keep the brand at the forefront of digital design. Leadership is also a significant aspect of this role, as the Senior Web Designer will mentor other designers, providing creative direction and oversight while managing project priorities. Effective communication skills are necessary to articulate ideas and concepts clearly to both internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee the website using the brand's creative expression, including site design, user experience, email, digital ads, direct mail, and emerging channels that support ecommerce revenue growth.
  • Guide others through the digital creative process, working closely with the creative director to align on consistent brand vision and guidelines.
  • Present and collaborate on concepts, wireframes, and storyboards for necessary campaign execution across multiple teams.
  • Create digital content that includes web graphics, infographics, social media advertising, video, and animated GIFs.
  • Lead, plan, and coordinate seasonal photoshoots with outside vendors for product laydown and on-body shots to supplement brand content.
  • Demonstrate a passion for results-oriented design and a desire for continuous learning and improvement, bringing a spirit of test and learn to elevate the consumer experience.
  • Work with the performance marketing team to create compelling digital content that will help increase ROAS and optimize campaigns.
  • Partner with internal teams to ideate and execute test scenarios to elevate user experience and engagement across all digital channels.
  • Collaborate with the creative director and content manager on executing key stories and product launches.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, tools, and processes to keep the brand at the forefront of design.
  • Lead and mentor designers, providing creative direction and oversight while coordinating priorities.
  • Effectively communicate ideas and concepts both internally and externally.
  • Perform duties consistent with the Company's AAP/EEO goals and policies.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent work experience.
  • Multi-media design experience (digital marketing, photography, email, video, direct mail, eCommerce) in a fast-paced, quick turnaround environment.
  • Demonstrated creative experience through a portfolio.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Open to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Video editing/digital animation experience is a plus.
  • Extensive printed and digital portfolio demonstrating relevant experience.
  • Keen eye for detail in photography, imagery, and digital assets to build engaging and effective consumer experiences.
  • Strong experience with web graphic optimization techniques.
  • Mastery of Adobe Photoshop and the full creative suite.
  • Ability to prioritize with business leaders and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Experience in responsive email and mobile/tablet design is required.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS is necessary.
  • UI/UX Design experience is preferred.
