About the position

The Senior Wireless Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced algorithms to enable seamless wireless connectivity between terrestrial Bluetooth devices and satellites. This role involves designing and optimizing wireless communication protocols essential for maintaining reliable connections across varying conditions in space and on Earth, contributing to the foundation of a global Bluetooth network dedicated to machine-to-machine connectivity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize wireless protocols and signal processing algorithms for reliable communication between Bluetooth endpoint devices and Hubble Satellites.
  • Lead the design and modeling of wireless communication systems, evaluating link budgets, channel models, and modulation schemes.
  • Help validate FPGA implementation in laboratory and real-world operational environments, developing and executing test plans to ensure performance criteria are met.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and mechanical engineers to integrate wireless systems into the Hubble Satellite ecosystem.
  • Conduct performance analysis of wireless systems, identifying bottlenecks and proposing optimizations to enhance reliability and data throughput.
  • Design scalable wireless solutions to support a growing constellation of satellites and a high number of terrestrial Bluetooth devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline (Masters preferred).
  • Strong understanding of communication theory and signal processing-related algorithm design.
  • Knowledge of existing wireless communication protocols such as 5G, LTE, WCDMA, GSM, and Bluetooth/BLE.
  • Expertise in developing signal processing and wireless communications systems with hands-on experience in lab testing.
  • Experience with Matlab or Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Experience with High-Level Synthesis (HLS), silicon prototyping, FPGA development, and emulation systems.
  • Experience in bring-up of real systems in silicon/FPGA/SoC and use of lab test equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • Experience with multi-radio coexistence management.
  • Experience in modem architecture and microprocessor architecture.
  • Experience in low-power algorithm design for power-critical applications.
