About the position

The Senior Writer at Loyola University Chicago is responsible for leading the development of storytelling content that highlights the university's academic excellence and strategic priorities. This role is integral to the Content Team within University Marketing and Communication, collaborating with various stakeholders to produce engaging content across multiple media and channels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead story generation and build an editorial calendar with impactful stories from internal stakeholders.
  • Develop engaging content for print and web communications that aligns with the university's branding and enhances its reputation.
  • Create short- and long-form stories for various channels and audiences, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general community.
  • Research, edit, and develop stories, ensuring approval from appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to align content with university themes and priorities.
  • Consult with Creative and Multimedia Teams on visual assets to accompany stories, ensuring timely production.
  • Contribute to the development of Op-eds, web content, and other written materials as needed.
  • Proofread and edit materials from other team members to ensure consistent messaging and style.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in a not-for-profit organization.
  • Comfortable writing for various mediums including print, web, and social media.
  • Skilled in editing and proofreading according to a style manual, preferably the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with diverse departments.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Creativity and ability to generate innovative ideas.
