About the position

The Sensory Coordinator at Tillamook plays a crucial role in ensuring product quality through sensory evaluation and operational improvements. This position involves working on sensory projects and product release processes, utilizing sensory science techniques to enhance product quality and operational excellence. The coordinator will serve as a sensory expert, conducting evaluations, designing studies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work on sensory projects (60%) and product release/operational improvements (40%).
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and report on multiple sensory projects with competing priorities.
  • Serve as an organoleptic evaluator to assess Tillamook projects against golden standard specifications.
  • Define best-fit data models for applying sensory science techniques to business questions.
  • Extract information from large data sets using statistical modeling and data analysis skills.
  • Design sensory studies with cross-functional teams using established sensory testing standards.
  • Act as a Sensory Subject Matter Expert (SME) to improve methodologies and drive product quality.
  • Provide back-up support to product release functions as needed.
  • Conduct regular product evaluations and serve as a product assessor.
  • Serve as a technical expert for company technology and quality modules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Sensory Science, Experimental Psychology, Statistics, or 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word.
  • Experience with Sensometric management, Minitab, or other statistical software.
  • Experience in descriptive and/or flavor analysis, preferably in sensory evaluation of dairy products.
  • Possess good sensory acuity and maintain a sense of urgency in project prioritization.
  • Experience in defining problems, collecting data, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of product stability and shelf life.

  • Experience in marketing research or product development.
  • Familiarity with sensory testing standards and methodologies.
