About the position

The Staff Material Process Engineer at Northrop Grumman will play a critical role in supporting the Sentinel program by reviewing and approving materials, parts, and processes for ICBM weapon system design. This position involves technical leadership in the non-metallics functional area, providing guidance to engineers, and managing various engineering processes related to materials and parts qualification. The role requires collaboration with design engineers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with program requirements and to address complex challenges in materials and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve standard and non-standard materials, parts, and processes for ICBM weapon system design.
  • Serve as the technical lead for the non-metallics functional area in review board meetings.
  • Provide technical guidance to early-mid career PM&P engineers.
  • Manage Bill-of-Materials and new part requests in a Product Lifecycle Management System.
  • Work with design engineers on the selection and application of non-metallic materials systems.
  • Advise on non-metallic materials/parts qualification and testing.
  • Conduct and lead efforts to develop and revise PM&P requirement specifications.
  • Participate in technical discussions with subcontractors and customers to resolve complex PMP challenges.
  • Analyze internal workflow processes for improvement opportunities.
  • Review internal material/process/component specifications for technical rigor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years of experience; 12 years with a Master's Degree; 9 years with a PhD.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Experience in materials and process engineering within the military/defense industry.
  • Experience with selection and application of non-metallic parts and materials.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Chemistry preferred.
  • Familiarity with DoD/space/missile development programs.
  • Experience with configuration management and technical review boards.
  • Familiarity with polymeric coatings, adhesives, and composites.
  • Experience engaging with US government customers and subcontractors.
