About the position

The Manager Software Engineering 2 position at Northrop Grumman involves overseeing a team of system software engineers while also fulfilling functional management responsibilities. This dual-hat role requires the candidate to assess staffing needs, support recruitment activities, and lead software engineering efforts for the Sentinel program. Responsibilities

  • Perform functional management activities and program responsibilities.
  • Assess staffing needs and work with team leads to address those needs.
  • Support recruitment activities including creating requisitions, conducting interviews, and approving offers.
  • Lead a team of system software engineers, providing guidance and assigning work regarding system software architecture and requirements.
  • Ensure alignment of GNC software with system architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of software development experience or a master's with 4 years of experience (4 additional years of experience may substitute for a degree).
  • At least 1 year of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application.
  • Experience with Agile principles including Kanban and Scrum.
  • Experience leading Software Engineering teams.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Experience in software development using languages such as C++ and Python.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), software design, and requirement management.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to operate independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to establish solid working relationships with technical staff, peers, and customers.
  • Experience with executing software development processes.
  • CAM certification or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months.
  • Familiarization with DO-178 and processes covering the software development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of best practices for the development of Safety Critical Software.
