About the position

This position within the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Commercial function focuses on the procurement and management of contracts and suppliers, contributing to the department's mission of economic growth. The role involves working directly with the department and suppliers to address a diverse range of commercial challenges, while also providing opportunities for professional development through access to CIPS resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of a category strategy for the relevant category team.
  • Undertake end-to-end procurements, including those subject to Public Contracts Regulations and the new Procurement Act 2023.
  • Support the Commercial Lead for the category in commercial leadership across the organisation, ensuring best practice and delivery of savings.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of customers' business and culture, supporting them as a commercial manager.
  • Implement, manage, improve, and promote the use of systems, tools, and data management to create useful management information.
  • Ensure communication is audience-focused, clear, concise, and consistent to assist understanding and support for policy/process change.
  • Support and provide leadership to deliver effective results on time, to required quality standards and cost.
  • Conduct regular supplier relationship analysis and benchmarking activities.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of the obligations within DBT contracts, including performance standards and KPIs.
  • Advise and support the business and internal stakeholders on contractual issues in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Experience in procurement and contract management.
  • Knowledge of Public Contracts Regulations and the Procurement Act 2023.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to analyze supplier relationships and conduct benchmarking activities.
  • Experience in managing systems and tools for data management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working within a government department or public sector organization.
  • Familiarity with commercial leadership initiatives.
  • Understanding of environmental goals related to procurement.
