About the position

The Department of Communications and Marketing at Indiana University is seeking a dedicated professional to lead our SEO initiatives and enhance our digital presence across our nine campuses. This role is pivotal in protecting, advancing, and elevating the university's brand and reputation both locally and globally. The successful candidate will design and implement effective SEO strategies that align with our brand goals, conduct technical SEO audits, and provide actionable recommendations to improve our online visibility. The position requires a deep understanding of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) principles, which will be applied across our web space to ensure that our content meets the highest standards of quality and relevance. In addition to SEO responsibilities, the role involves optimizing website content, images, and other on-page elements to enhance user experience and engagement. The candidate will perform keyword research to identify opportunities for content development and implement structured data markup using Schema.org to improve search engine visibility. Utilizing tools such as SEMRush, Screamingfrog, Siteimprove, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics, the individual will track performance metrics and make data-driven decisions to refine our strategies. The role also includes generating and presenting detailed SEO performance reports to management, collaborating with marketing and web development teams to integrate SEO best practices into all digital activities, and staying updated with the latest SEO trends and search algorithm changes. Beyond SEO, the position encompasses planning, analyzing, and developing comprehensive marketing and creative strategies to promote Indiana University through digital channels. The candidate will review and analyze usage trends and the effectiveness of digital marketing strategies, consulting with various stakeholders to determine high-level strategies for specific programs and objectives. The role requires a commitment to aligning all digital marketing efforts with the university's mission, strategies, objectives, and brand guidelines, ensuring a consistent and engaging user experience across all platforms. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to plan and develop integrated digital advertising schedules as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement effective SEO strategies tailored to brand and reputation goals.
  • Conduct technical SEO audits and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Optimize website content, images, and other on-page elements.
  • Perform keyword research to identify opportunities for content development.
  • Implement structured data markup using Schema.org.

  • Apply Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies to attract AI crawlers.
  • Generate and present detailed SEO performance reports to management.
  • Collaborate with marketing and web development teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated into all digital activities.
  • Stay up to date with the latest SEO trends and search algorithm changes.
  • Plan, analyze, and develop marketing and creative strategies to promote Indiana University through digital channels.
  • Review and analyze usage trends and effectiveness of digital marketing strategies, determining and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Consult with staff, faculty, colleagues, departments, and/or other stakeholders to determine high-level strategies for specific programs, goals, audiences, and objectives.
  • Collaborate with marketing and web teams to identify a target market and create a marketing campaign for digital technologies.
  • Ensure alignment with university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand guidelines across all digital marketing platforms and content.
  • Design user experience interfaces to ensure consistent and engaging platforms.
  • Plan and develop integrated digital advertising schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Data Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in a relevant field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in SEO, with a focus on brand and reputation management.
  • Experience with optimizing content for AI Assistants.
  • Experience with AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Google Gemini.
