About the position

The Department of Communications and Marketing at Indiana University is seeking a Vice President to lead our efforts in enhancing the university's brand and reputation both locally and globally. This role is pivotal in driving our strategic initiatives to improve our digital presence across our nine campuses. The VP will be responsible for designing and implementing effective SEO strategies that align with our brand goals, conducting technical SEO audits, and providing actionable recommendations to optimize our online visibility. The position requires a deep understanding of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) principles, which will be applied across our web space to ensure that our content meets the highest standards of quality and relevance. In addition to SEO, the VP will oversee the optimization of website content, images, and other on-page elements, while performing keyword research to identify opportunities for content development. The role also involves implementing structured data markup using Schema.org and utilizing various tools such as SEMRush, Screamingfrog, Siteimprove, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics to track performance and make data-driven decisions. The VP will also apply Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies to attract AI crawlers and generate detailed SEO performance reports for management. The VP will collaborate closely with marketing and web development teams to ensure that SEO best practices are integrated into all digital activities. Staying up to date with the latest SEO trends and search algorithm changes is essential to maintain our competitive edge in the digital landscape. Furthermore, the VP will plan, analyze, and develop marketing and creative strategies to promote Indiana University through digital channels, ensuring alignment with the university's mission and brand guidelines across all platforms. This role is critical in enhancing our digital marketing strategies and increasing exposure to our target audience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement effective SEO strategies tailored to brand and reputation goals.
  • Conduct technical SEO audits and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Implement E-E-A-T strategies across the university's web space.
  • Optimize website content, images, and other on-page elements.
  • Perform keyword research to identify opportunities for content development.
  • Implement structured data markup using Schema.org.
  • Utilize tools like SEMRush, Screamingfrog, Siteimprove, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics to track performance and make data-driven decisions.

  • Review and analyze usage trends and effectiveness of digital marketing strategies, determining and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Consult with staff, faculty, colleagues, departments, and other stakeholders to determine high-level strategies for specific programs, goals, audiences, and objectives.
  • Design user experience interfaces to ensure consistent and engaging platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Data Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in a relevant field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in SEO, with a focus on brand and reputation management.
  • Experience with optimizing content for AI Assistants.
  • Experience with AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Google Gemini.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in SEMRush, Screamingfrog, Siteimprove, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and structured data from Schema.org.
  • Keen understanding of E-E-A-T principles.
  • Knowledge of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies.
