About The Position

The SEP Junior High Instructional Coach is responsible for supporting teachers in their professional development and instructional practices. This role focuses on enhancing teaching effectiveness through coaching, collaboration, and leadership within the Southeast Polk Community School District. The coach will work closely with educators to implement effective teaching strategies, particularly in reading and mathematics, and facilitate professional learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Holds a valid Iowa teaching license.
  • Has a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Has worked as a certified employee for a minimum of one year in the Southeast Polk CSD.
  • Has demonstrated mastery in current strategies and initiatives in content areas, especially reading and mathematics.
  • Has successful experiences in collaborating with colleagues and coaching/mentoring them.
  • Has articulable successful leadership and coaching experiences in education.
  • Has earned graduate hours beyond Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
  • Science background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach teachers throughout all phases of the teaching, learning, and instructional decision-making process.
  • Conduct co-taught lessons, classroom observations, planning sessions, and learning sessions with teachers.
  • Model and coach teachers to realize the vision and achieve the mission of the Southeast Polk CSD.
  • Provide support and knowledge that inspires and encourages the professional growth of teachers.
  • Take on leadership roles in professional learning communities, data teams, and collaboration efforts.
  • Assist in all professional development activities, including presenting on educational topics.
  • Participate in instructional rounds events.
  • Serve in leadership roles in building-wide and ad hoc committee work.
  • Organize and facilitate parent learning opportunities at events.
  • Serve as an instructional coach for teachers in the evaluation process.
  • Participate in the collaborative design and evaluation of professional development activities.
  • Serve as the mentor teacher for beginning teachers.
  • Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with colleagues, parents, staff, and community.
