About the position

The Sergeant Lead/Armed Security Guard at Bering Straits Native Corporation is responsible for enforcing security regulations, supervising security personnel, and ensuring the safety of government property and personnel. This role requires specialized training in security methods and techniques, as well as proficiency in firearms. The position involves both routine and emergency response duties, requiring strong judgment and discretion in various situations.

Responsibilities

• Establish inspection tours for ASOs and ensure they register their locations during rounds.
• Authorize deviations from established schedules when unusual conditions occur and document reasoning.
• Perform designated guard functions including monitoring fire alarms and electronic security systems.
• Ensure safety and protection of building personnel and property against various threats.
• Report hazardous conditions and items needing repair.
• Maintain daily reports and log entries for visitor activities and security incidents.
• Provide a high state of security and assist in emergency management situations.
• Notify the Security Control Room and emergency services in case of unusual occurrences.
• Conduct quarterly exercises to test guard responsiveness in emergencies.
• Issue identification cards/badges and maintain records of all issued IDs.
• Receive and transport packages and specimens as required.
• Conduct visitor center operations including issuing badges and operating security equipment.
• Assist with traffic operations and conduct patrols, both interior and exterior.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Valid Security Guard License for the applying state.
• Ability to pass a CDC administered Background Check.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Must demonstrate proficiency with firearms every 6 months.
• Good judgment in normal and extreme conditions.
