About the position

Maggiano's Little Italy is seeking passionate and dedicated servers for both full-time and part-time opportunities at our San Jose location. As a server, you will be responsible for taking orders and serving food and beverages to guests in the restaurant and cocktail area. This role requires a strong focus on guest satisfaction and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to effectively service a 6-table station, accurately account for and balance all sales and receipts, and communicate clearly with the kitchen staff. Additionally, you will present and encourage current promotional information to guests, ensuring they have a memorable dining experience. In this role, you will also be responsible for accurately recording and accounting for all items ordered and served, accepting payments from guests, and notifying them of any automatic gratuity. It is essential to perform calmly under pressure and maintain a courteous and patient demeanor, especially when dealing with difficult guests. You will be expected to uphold the restaurant's standards of service and reflect the established image of Maggiano's through your appearance and conduct. Responsibilities

  • Effectively service a 6 table station
  • Accurately account for and balance all sales and receipts
  • Communicate clearly with the kitchen both verbally and utilizing the computer register system
  • Present and encourage current promotional information and materials to guests
  • Accurately account for all guest checks issued
  • Accurately record and account for all items ordered and served
  • Accurately accept payment from guests
  • Notify guests of any automatic gratuity
  • Perform calmly under pressure, handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Communicate with guests clearly, patiently, and courteously
  • Perform varied duties to ensure all aspects of service according to standing operating procedure

Requirements

  • Must provide a minimum of 2 years full-service restaurant experience or the equivalent
  • Knowledge of menu and specials
  • Familiarity with wine list, liquor list, and special drinks
  • Understanding of accounting procedures
  • Knowledge of restaurant layout including table numbers and station numbers
  • Ability to meet personal schedule requirements punctually
  • Must be courteous, pleasant, and good-natured
  • Ability to respond to the needs of difficult guests with patience and courtesy
  • Willingness to accept constructive criticism
  • Ability to get along with co-workers
  • Maintain a clean, well-manicured persona that reflects the established image of the restaurant
  • Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift
  • Safely transport food from kitchen to guest table over slick, uneven surfaces
  • Transport food to service a party of 4 in a single trip
  • Transport food and beverage items from source to any guest table continually throughout a shift
  • Safely move about in all areas of the restaurant
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
