About the position

The Server at Harmony at West Shore plays a crucial role in providing a pleasant dining experience for residents and guests. This position involves not only serving meals but also ensuring that the dining area is clean and well-maintained. The Server is responsible for understanding and adhering to all dining room and kitchen procedures, which includes maintaining a good working knowledge of kitchen equipment such as food processors, dishwashers, and beverage machines. A clean work area is essential, and the Server must ensure that the kitchen, serving area, and dining room are kept tidy at all times. Proper table settings for each meal are also part of the Server's responsibilities. In addition to serving meals, the Server assists residents with menu orders, provides beverage service, and ensures that condiments are replenished before and after meals. The role requires reporting any broken equipment or tableware to a supervisor and understanding proper serving techniques. A basic understanding of food preparation, including salads and desserts, is beneficial, as is knowledge of food storage and labeling techniques. The Server is also responsible for cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming the dining area and kitchen. Attendance at required in-services and staff meetings is mandatory, and the Server must be attentive to the special needs of residents, including those with mobility deficits or memory impairments. Confidentiality regarding resident information is paramount, and the Server must interact politely and considerately with residents, guests, co-workers, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Courteously serve resident and guest meals.
• Clean up and reset the dining room following meal service.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of all dining room and kitchen responsibilities and procedures.
• Understand basic kitchen equipment operation (food processor, dishwasher, beverage machine, etc.).
• Maintain a clean work area in the kitchen, serving area, and dining room.
• Assist residents when placing orders from the menu.
• Provide beverage service (water, iced tea, juices, milk, and coffee/tea).
• Refill salt/pepper/sugar bowls prior to and after each meal.
• Report any broken equipment or tableware to supervisor.
• Understand sit-down service and proper serving techniques.
• Have a basic understanding of food preparation (salads, desserts, etc.).
• Knowledge of proper food storage and labeling techniques.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum kitchen and dining room.
• Attend required in-services and staff meetings.
• Complete all other duties assigned.
• Be attentive to special needs of residents including mobility deficits and memory impairment.
• Assist with tray service.
• Follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information.
• Interact in a polite and considerate manner with residents, guests, co-workers, and supervisors.

Requirements

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be in clean designated uniform during working hours and maintain good personal hygiene.
• Must be able to read and follow simple instructions.
• Must possess the ability to perform simple, repetitive tasks.
• Must be able to learn quickly and apply learned principles.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and work under close supervision.
• Must be able to bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull objects.
• Must be able to stand and walk for sustained periods up to three (3) hours at a time.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and carry heavy objects for 20 feet.
• Must be organized and willing to work well with other team members.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
