About the position

The Service Area Administrator (SAA) at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) plays a crucial role in planning, organizing, directing, and leading child welfare initiatives within the Northern and South-Eastern Service Areas. This position is dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable citizens by fostering relationships with local officials, stakeholders, and community groups to achieve safety, permanency, and well-being outcomes for children and adults. The SAA will also guide administrative teams, mentor staff, and implement continuous quality improvement processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and lead child welfare in assigned service areas.
  • Confer with local officials, stakeholders, tribal leaders, and community groups to develop sustainable resources.
  • Ensure federal and state outcomes are met in safety, permanency, and well-being for served populations.
  • Establish goals for the service area and delegate work activities to achieve those goals.
  • Guide the administrative team to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and cultivate relationships with other administrators and supervisors.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to management and staff to improve teamwork and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement continuous quality improvement processes at the service area level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public/business administration, social behavioral sciences, program evaluation, or organization/management analysis.
  • Proven experience in a managerial capacity with responsibilities in workload assignment, budget preparation, and employee performance evaluation.
  • Experience working with diverse community groups and building consensus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in social work, public administration, or related field.
  • Progressive supervisory, management, and leadership experience.
  • Experience leading teams to comply with outcomes and regulations.
  • Experience in public speaking and providing presentations.
  • Experience working collaboratively with community partners, legal systems, and families.
