The Service Deli Ops Specialist plays a crucial role in monitoring, enforcing, and supporting the execution of the division merchandising plan for their department across assigned stores. This position requires extensive travel to various locations, where the specialist collaborates closely with Department Managers and staff to share merchandising plans aimed at achieving sales, gross profit, and labor targets. The specialist is responsible for evaluating the overall presentation, cleanliness, and compliance of departments with company policies and procedures during store visits. Additionally, they develop and maintain training programs to ensure that qualified associates are available to fill positions within the departments. Participation in departmental and divisional sales meetings is also a key responsibility, along with overseeing shrink, food safety, sanitation, and departmental sales reporting from assigned stores. The role involves implementing new merchandising programs and strategies, ensuring that department staff is adequately trained to execute these plans. The Service Deli Ops Specialist also monitors competitor activities and assists in the opening of new and remodeled stores. They provide valuable merchandising input back to Division Sales Managers and Assistant Sales Managers, contributing to the overall success of the division. The effectiveness of the specialist is measured through store-level performance metrics, including department sales, gross profit, and labor percentages, as well as the success of training programs evaluated through assessments and reviews. To excel in this position, candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, along with previous experience in merchandising and retail sales. Experience as a Department Manager or Store Director is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as the specialist will interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and over the phone. A marketing orientation, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and strong leadership skills are also critical for motivating and guiding others without direct supervision. The working conditions involve a mix of office work and store visits, requiring physical activity such as standing, walking, and climbing stairs, along with the ability to handle various office equipment. The position may require up to 75% travel, including occasional weekend travel, in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
