About the position

The Service Engineer for Industrial Storage at Tesla is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and firmware issues that affect the uptime of Tesla's Industrial Storage systems. This role involves leading cross-functional efforts to prevent known issues, analyzing data to identify failure modes, and providing support for escalated customer cases. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, design, and technical support teams to implement improvements and ensure effective documentation and training for service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues that cause downtime for Tesla's Industrial Storage customers.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to drive actions with manufacturing, design, field service, and technical support teams to prevent known issues from reoccurring.
  • Mine data logged by Tesla's Industrial Storage fleet to define failure modes and utilize automation tools for diagnosis.
  • Define actions for field service and technical support teams when specific failure modes occur and develop necessary training.
  • Quantify benefits of product or manufacturing improvements and work with teams to implement changes.
  • Support escalated customer cases globally to minimize system downtime.
  • Explain root causes and resolutions to commercial and utility customers as needed.
  • Create documentation and training for commissioning, operating, repairing, and servicing Tesla's Industrial Storage products.
  • Maintain the list of serviceable parts and provide guidance on replacement strategies for obsolete parts.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using Python or equivalent for data analysis on large databases.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition applied to firmware/software-enabled systems.
  • Prior experience troubleshooting electrical, system, firmware, or process failure modes.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce clear written documents and diagrams.
  • Experience with battery systems and power systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of CAN Bus communication is a plus.
  • Experience with managing or maintaining equipment running Linux-based applications is a plus.
