About the position

The Service Engineer - Instrumentation and Controls at Wärtsilä Energy is responsible for solving technical and operational problems at customer power plants, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting new build and commissioning teams. This role requires significant travel to customer facilities across Canada, the US, and the Caribbean, with an expectation of being on service jobs approximately 80% of the year. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of energy systems and maintaining strong customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Solve technical and operational problems at customer power plants.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities according to maintenance programs.
  • Support New Build and Commissioning teams on project delivery.
  • Prepare service work reports and other relevant documentation related to site or customer visits.
  • Maintain good relationships with the customer during work execution.
  • Travel to customer facilities for service attendance within Canada, US, and the Caribbean.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Controls & Automation or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of PLC development, programming, and troubleshooting (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, etc.).
  • Experience with DCS troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with HMI systems such as Wonderware.
  • Understanding of various industrial networks and protocols (Modbus TCP, Profibus, CAN-bus, CIP, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNET, ControlNET, Industrial Ethernet).
  • Experience with OPC systems.
  • Knowledge of Windows server and UNIX servers.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives.
  • Advanced programming of firewalls and routers.
  • Familiarity with Reciprocating Gas Engine Control Systems (MAN, MaK, Caterpillar, Bergen, etc.).
