About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered nurse responsible for overseeing the operation of a nursing unit during a specific time period. This role requires a strong foundation of clinical knowledge, organizational abilities, and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication and teamwork. The Assistant Nurse Manager is accountable for their nursing practice, seeks opportunities for self-development, and plays a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and evaluating nursing activities. They ensure comprehensive patient-centered care, manage nursing tasks, and promote compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate unit nursing activities.
  • Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care.
  • Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate nursing care plans.
  • Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Train and delegate duties to nursing staff.
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Act as a resource to other members of the nursing team.
  • Promote compliance and support for nursing policies.

Requirements

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
  • CNOR Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two (2) years of recent RN OR work experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center or four (4) years in a multi-specialty outpatient surgery center.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial role in an in-patient setting.
  • Strong track record in team collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in managing daily operations of a nursing unit, including staff scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Proficiency in developing and updating unit policies and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • CNOR Certification upon hire.
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience using the electronic medical record, EPIC.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff.
