About the position

The ServiceNow Principal Engineer/Architect will play a pivotal role in developing, building, and providing solutions for IT and Business processes within the organization. This senior position requires a highly skilled individual who will work across various departments to create high business value solutions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in implementing ServiceNow products such as ITSM, CMDB, Sec Ops, WSD, GRC, PA, SPM, HR, CSM, and ITOM. The individual will be responsible for participating in and delivering platform governance oversight while applying their knowledge of architecture and engineering principles. In this role, the Principal Engineer/Architect will research, evaluate, design, implement, and maintain ServiceNow system and product solutions in collaboration with other architectural and engineering stakeholders. They will provide platform-specific technical direction and engineering support to product delivery teams, ensuring that solutions align with organizational strategy and standards. The candidate will also be expected to develop and maintain expert knowledge of evolving ServiceNow engineering technologies, concepts, and trends, which will be crucial for driving the organization’s success. This position requires a strong understanding of platform-specific capabilities and necessitates close collaboration with key stakeholders and senior technology leaders. The Principal Engineer/Architect will serve as a technical thought leader for the platform, guiding the organization in leveraging ServiceNow to meet its business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Apply ServiceNow platform expertise to promote and guide business solutions.
  • Support the definition, guardrails, and execution of the ServiceNow technical governance processes.
  • Drive standardization and best practices for the effective operations of the ServiceNow platform architectural model to drive value delivery.
  • Work with the ServiceNow platform owner, architecture, engineering, and development to achieve organizational outcomes.
  • Coordinate with a team of platform technical experts to achieve governance and organizational outcomes.
  • Coach and apply technical standards with service and operational partners and product owners.
  • Provide engineering ability, leadership, and mentorship of platform concepts and patterns.
  • Perform engineering technology research, procurement support, deployment, and configuration for new and modified systems.
  • Provide and coordinate technical evaluation of demand against platform architecture, capabilities, and practices, including considerations for integration, performance, and security.
  • Design solutions and solution alternatives, effectively solicit and incorporate feedback, and present options to all levels of leadership.
  • Present clear, organized, and concise information to all audiences through a variety of media to enable effective business decisions; ability to communicate across the organization at all levels.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of system and product solutions including compliance with Navy Federal, industry, architecture, engineering, and information security principles and practices.
  • Support remediation and health activities of the platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Extensive hands-on ServiceNow platform engineering and architecture experience with additional knowledge of integrated technologies.
  • Extensive understanding of ServiceNow capabilities and applying the platform to meet business goals.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of enterprise and solution architecture concepts using the ServiceNow platform.
  • Strong experience in the ServiceNow platform and proper use of the data model (CSDM).
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering disciplines; including operational platform and integration patterns and protocols.
  • Expertise in consultative approaches with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable understanding of IT operations and service management practices.
  • Experience leading discussions related to ServiceNow implementations of products and data.
  • Experience in hybrid operating system environments; Unix, Windows, Network, Cloud, Containers, Serverless.
  • Experience with platform planning, testing, and validation.
  • Experience with automated delivery and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Advanced skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with designing and executing platform governance models.
  • Experience using the ServiceNow common service data model (CSDM).
  • Experience connecting the platform data to organizational outcomes (e.g., portfolio management).
  • Experience with agile delivery with a focus in SAFe.
