About the position

The Service Operations Specialist at Lumos Networks is responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining residential and business services. This role requires expertise in operating and repairing various telecommunications equipment and performing preventive maintenance. The position is remote within South Carolina, requiring proximity to Spartanburg, SC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment located at RSB CO, Remote, DLC and COLO Sites.
  • Conduct advanced OTDR traces and fiber characterization.
  • Install and troubleshoot basic voice, data, and video services, including CPE (Residential Gateways, Routers, etc.).
  • Update trouble tickets, orders, and timesheets through data entry on a computer.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing RSB CO, Remote, DLC, and COLO equipment.
  • Support RSB Engineering Projects, including adding GPON cards, turning up new access gear, and upgrading ONTs.
  • Assist Net Ops in troubleshooting, isolating, and resolving operational and hardware issues.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent with relevant electronics background; an associate's degree in electronics and/or networking is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of telecommunications industry experience.
  • Knowledge of network cabling, basic electrical, basic telephony, and grounding/bonding ANSI/EIA/TIA-607 standards.
  • Experience maintaining power equipment such as rectifiers, batteries, and generators.
  • Ability to read and understand cross connects for Fiber LCC cabinets and splitters.
  • Experience with advanced GPON and fiber-based services and equipment.
  • Familiarity with voice services (SIP) and associated hardware.
  • Working knowledge of video services and associated hardware.
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN services and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of IP subnetting.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions that support customer expectations.
