About the position

The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing customer vehicles efficiently and professionally, ensuring high-quality repairs at a fair cost. This role involves close collaboration with the service management team and co-workers to meet customer service requirements and complete repair orders in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Daily planning with the service team to establish repair strategies based on job priorities.
  • Determine work required from the repair order.
  • Diagnose vehicle issues to verify customer complaints and plan repair strategies.
  • Complete repairs efficiently within the time allowed.
  • Perform quality repairs minimizing shop comebacks and unnecessary shop expenses.
  • Submit a complete and accurate write-up for each repair performed.
  • Road test vehicles to verify satisfactory repair (if possessing a CDL).
  • Manual and computerized time posting on an ongoing basis.
  • Confirm that all cores are returned to parts and that warranty parts are properly tagged and stored.
  • Coordinate with the rear parts counter on parts needed for repairs.
  • Maintain a clean shop environment and dispose of trash from repairs.
  • Return tools to the cage and store drop lights and extension cords properly.
  • Maintain the readiness and proper working condition of shop tools, making adjustments and minor repairs as needed.
  • Notify the Service Manager if a needed tool is not quickly repairable.
  • Assist the Service Team with preparing accurate repair estimates when required.
  • Update the Service Manager on current repairs in process regularly.
  • Maintain current certifications and work in a safe manner.
  • Provide and maintain a full set of hand tools and air tools.
  • Leave the customer's vehicle in the same or cleaner condition than when repairs started, using seat covers and floor mats.
  • Be punctual at the start of shifts and when returning from breaks.
  • Do not exceed two hours on diagnosis without approval from the Service Manager.
  • Bring any additional repairs to the attention of the Service Team immediately.
  • Always wear safety glasses on the shop floor.
  • Understand and follow regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, MSDA, and right-to-know.
  • Conduct oneself professionally, reflecting the importance of customers to the business.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Service Technician or similar role in automotive repair.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and ability to troubleshoot vehicle issues.
  • Familiarity with manual and computerized time posting systems.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under time constraints.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in an automotive environment.
  • Full set of hand tools and air tools required for the job.
  • Current certifications relevant to automotive repair.

Nice-to-haves

  • CDL license for road testing vehicles.
  • Experience with customer service in an automotive setting.
