About the position

The Service Technician role at Summit Idealease involves conducting diesel equipment repairs and preventive maintenance in a retail dealership environment. The position requires a customer-oriented individual who can work effectively in a team, providing technical service to vehicles and equipment, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. This role offers opportunities for advancement within a leading heavy-duty truck dealer group.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical service to vehicles and equipment, including troubleshooting, electrical, and diagnostic services.
  • Read Repair Orders and observe vehicle operations to determine malfunctions and plan work procedures.
  • Perform general and detailed repairs of all trucks, engines, and components.
  • Overhaul gas or diesel engines and install various engine components such as injectors, pistons, and clutches.
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, making necessary adjustments.
  • Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicles to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Advise the Service Supervisor of any additional repair work necessary and tag all warranty parts for return.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly working area and handle company tools properly.
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures, using safety equipment when required.
  • Attend training classes and stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Related technical school training preferred.
  • Three to five years of commercial truck technical service experience.
  • Engine certifications preferred: Cummins, Detroit, International, etc.
  • Necessary tools to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work and learn independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to use various Windows-based computer software.
  • Experience with engine software is a plus.
  • Valid commercial driver's license preferred.
