About the position

The Service Unit Department Manager RN for Medicine Specialties is responsible for managing a large unit or multiple units that provide ambulatory services. This role ensures that staff delivers high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective patient care while complying with all relevant regulations. The manager develops clinical practice standards, oversees budgets, and fosters staff development to enhance patient-focused services across the continuum of care.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the operations of a large unit or multiple units providing ambulatory services.
  • Ensures staff provides high quality care in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and other regulations.
  • Collaborates with physicians and healthcare providers to establish and maintain patient care standards.
  • Acts as a patient advocate to resolve care issues.
  • Designs and evaluates processes to improve systems and patient care results.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budgets and resource allocations.
  • Monitors financial performance and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care.
  • Determines appropriate staff mix and develops processes for hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency.
  • Provides ongoing staff development and manages human resource issues.
  • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures to support organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of nursing experience in management/leadership roles required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelors degree in nursing or health-related field required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an outpatient care setting preferred.
  • Clinical specialization in area of practice preferred.
  • Masters degree preferred.
