About the position

The Set Teacher at Brava! for Women in the Arts is a part-time role focused on teaching Set Design to high school students. The position requires a blend of artistic and technical skills, including curriculum development and hands-on instruction in set construction and the use of power tools. The teacher will engage students in both in-person and virtual sessions, fostering a creative and safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to high school students, incorporating theater and construction themes.
• Manage classroom dynamics to foster a positive learning environment.
• Utilize effective communication skills to connect with students and facilitate discussions.
• Oversee student projects involving power tools, ensuring safety and proper usage.
• Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
• Encourage creativity and critical thinking through hands-on activities and collaborative projects.

Requirements

• Degree in Set Design specifically Theater based.
• Experience in teaching Set Design to Middle and High School students.
• Ability to create a curriculum for in-person and virtual sessions.
• Must have building and set construction skills.
• Knowledge of power tools and safety protocols.
• Knowledge in Theater etiquette.
• Experience in working and collaborating with an artistic team.
• Updated artistic portfolio.
• Availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 3pm-7pm, some Saturdays, and tech week (fall/spring).
• Must pass a background check.
• Own vehicle highly preferred but not required.
• Valid and up to date proof of Covid19 Vaccination and must complete a weekly Covid19 test.
