Shag Truck Operator / Warehouse Specialist

About the position

The Warehouse Specialist - Shag Truck Operator at Hy-Vee is responsible for operating company vehicles and equipment safely and professionally to ensure timely delivery of products. This role involves shagging trailers, maintaining an organized lot, and substituting as a route driver, while also performing various warehouse generalist functions as needed. The position requires flexibility to work in both capacities depending on daily workload.

Responsibilities

• Operate shag truck, semi-tractor, and trailer safely and professionally while adhering to all laws and regulations.
• Perform backhauls including verifying product counts, quality control, tagging pallets, notifying dispatch of changes, and completing required paperwork.
• Conduct general vehicle inspections before, during, and after deliveries, ensuring temperature control of the reefer unit.
• Refuel truck and trailer as needed and report any issues before departure.
• Implement security measures and comply with Specialty Foods Warehouse security procedures when monitoring non-employees.
• Perform daily safety inspections of power equipment and ensure safety equipment is utilized properly.
• Maintain a clean work environment by sweeping and picking up debris.
• Accurately select orders via a voice automated selection system and safely palletize merchandise for shipment.
• Shuttle trailers and monitor spots for loading and unloading of products.
• Attend departmental and company meetings.
• Replenish merchandise to selected slots and stage received products for replenishment.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class A Department of Transportation Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsements.
• Ability to meet language and hearing capabilities for voice automated selection.
• Ability to follow one or two-step instructions and perform routine, repetitive tasks.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to operate single and double pallet jacks, forklift, and stock picker upon certification.
• Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects.
