The Shawnee Mission Park Worker I position at the Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) involves leading and assisting crews in various park maintenance tasks. The role is essential for ensuring safety standards, training new crew members, and maintaining the park's landscape and facilities. Responsibilities

• Direct and assist crews in completing assignments.
• Train new crew members.
• Ensure safety standards are met.
• Complete paperwork, timesheets, and equipment logs.
• Assist in the coordination and direction of contractors.
• Serve as supervisor in the supervisor's absence.
• Operate vehicles or powered equipment for park maintenance tasks.
• Perform mowing and snow removal duties.
• Mulch tree beds, plant trees and flowers, and aerate and seed landscaping.
• Trim and prune shrubs and trees, and repair soil erosion.
• Perform general, routine, and complex maintenance of light and medium duty equipment.
• Rebuild and repair equipment and trailers, and perform basic maintenance duties.
• Build, fix, and maintain fencing, and complete basic preventative maintenance on building/plant equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in tree care, golf course maintenance, or grounds maintenance preferred.
• Experience operating mowers and associated equipment.
