About the position

The Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader will oversee the installation and modification of F/A-18 aircraft service changes within the MRO Production Department at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest. This role involves working with blueprints and engineering specifications to fabricate and repair metal and composite structures, ensuring compliance with maintenance requirements and technical enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Work from blueprints and engineering specifications to install F/A-18 aircraft service changes.
  • Fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal and composite structures.
  • Disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on F/A-18 aircraft.
  • Install airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs, and technical enhancements to meet aircraft maintenance requirements.
  • Manufacture new skins, patches, reinforcements, doublers, brackets, panels, and other sheet metal parts for installation using bolts, rivets, and pins.
  • Work with various metals including aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys.

Requirements

  • Possess full journeyman skills and working knowledge in sheet metal processing techniques and aircraft maintenance procedures.
  • Experience in fabricating metal repairs and modifying aircraft sheet metal and composite structures.
  • Ability to disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft.
  • Experience in installing airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs, and technical enhancements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comply with blueprints, sketches, technical data, and engineering specifications.
  • Demonstrate acceptable skill level in using hand tools related to the metal smith trade.
  • Utilize skills for sheet metal machinery and precision measuring tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leading or supervising personnel in a technical environment.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
