About the position

The Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I position involves assisting in the production of high-quality aircraft parts and assemblies, adhering to Piper Drawings and Process Specifications. The role focuses on assembling various aircraft components, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and supporting continuous improvement efforts within the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble aircraft sheet metal structural assemblies including wing spars, wing sections, fuselage sections, and associated flight controls.
  • Drill out, countersink, dimple, ream, and chamfer holes on structural assemblies using various tools.
  • Trim assemblies to fit and hand lay out parts while maintaining design tolerances.
  • Apply sealants on pressurized fuselage sections and other structural joints as necessary.
  • Operate routers and grinders in precision areas such as cabin windows and structural joints.
  • Install mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system parts and accessories.
  • Inspect and approve own and teammates' work using Piper inspection certifications.
  • Maintain compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely manner.
  • Rework discrepancies and assist with Material Review Board repairs and modifications.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance team performance and productivity.
  • Partner with senior teammates for training and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of related sheet metal assembly experience preferred for Assembler I.
  • 3-5 years of experience for Assembler II or demonstrated competency in related tasks.
  • 5 years of experience for Senior Assembler or demonstrated competency in related tasks.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools as required.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with aircraft assembly processes.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior teammates.
