About the position

The Sheet Metal Worker Journeyman at Amtrak is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on rolling stock equipment and components. This role ensures compliance with FRA and Amtrak standards, focusing on troubleshooting and repairing various mechanical systems to maintain operational efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures.
  • Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and systems.
  • Repair brake, water heating, and sanitation systems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling equipment and related piping.
  • Maintain proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines, and hand tools.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and rebuilding of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Experience testing equipment and repairs to water and sanitation systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of specialized tools, equipment, and measurements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment.
  • Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program.
