About the position

The Shelter Advocate position at Sunrise of Pasco, Inc. is a full-time role focused on providing crisis intervention and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The advocate will work closely with residents, assisting them in navigating their challenges and accessing necessary community services. This role requires a compassionate approach and adherence to shelter policies to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
  • Handles crisis intervention and advocacy on the 24-hour crisis line, completing necessary paperwork for each call.
  • Screens and admits victims and their children, completing intake paperwork by the end of the shift.
  • Enters participant data into Osnium as needed.
  • Assists residents with problem-solving during times of crisis in the shelter.
  • Provides transportation for victims when necessary.
  • Works with residents and their children in an empowering manner to further the goals of Sunrise.
  • Ensures residents' needs for linens, personal items, food, medications, and cleaning products are met.
  • Administers shelter operations policy, procedures, and guidelines respectfully and consistently.
  • Maintains the facility's safety and security by checking grounds and ensuring proper functioning of alarms and lighting.
  • Collaborates with Law Enforcement as needed.
  • Facilitates access to community services such as housing, food stamps, and medical needs for participants.
  • Assesses the needs of victims and develops individualized service plans in conjunction with Family Services team members.
  • Assists with monthly statistical reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Shelter Services.

Requirements

  • Compassionate and non-judgmental approach to dealing with participants and vendors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with community agencies and law enforcement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to assist residents during crises.
  • Familiarity with shelter operations policies and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.
  • Knowledge of community resources available for victims.
