About the position

The Shelter Caseworker position involves working with residential clients, particularly children and their parents, to provide support and programming aimed at achieving personal and family goals. The role requires a compassionate individual who can handle crisis situations, manage multiple priorities, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity while working with vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate orientation for resident children.
  • Implement children's programming including structured play and age-appropriate learning activities.
  • Provide effective parenting techniques through modeling and role-playing.
  • Act as the advocate/liaison to appropriate agencies and referral sources.
  • Act as the advocate/liaison to Child Protective Services, attend all cross training's and inter-agency meetings, and maintain an accurate list of all necessary CPS contacts.
  • Keep accurate record of services provided for adults and children and submit required reports.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and provide for secure record keeping.
  • Participate in weekly case staffing.
  • Provide telephone crisis intervention.
  • Conduct admissions/intakes as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Arrange/provide transportation as needed.
  • Provide information and referral.
  • Provide ongoing advocacy and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Child Development or related field.
  • 2 years of case management experience.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid or ability to certify.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Detail-oriented with positive attitude and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Demonstrated professional sensitivity and appropriate responsiveness to cultural differences.
