About the position

The Shelter Lot Monitor, Outreach Worker, and Client Liaison position at New Beginnings Counseling Center involves monitoring safe parking lots, conducting outreach and rehousing activities, and providing case management support to clients. The role requires independent judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to public service, particularly in challenging emotional situations. This part-time position includes both daytime and nighttime hours, with flexibility in scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned safe parking lots in Carpinteria daily.
  • Exercise independent judgment to communicate with program participants regarding compliance with program rules.
  • Conduct rapid rehousing and street outreach activities, including housing search and placement assistance.
  • Assist clients in developing action plans for locating housing and provide tenant counseling.
  • Evaluate individuals and families for rapid rehousing assistance and verify eligibility.
  • Maintain close communication with case managers of the Safe Parking Program.
  • Identify vehicles in violation of program rules and address non-compliance with participants.
  • Prepare and maintain records of activities and warnings issued.
  • Assist clients with stabilizing and transitioning back into permanent housing.
  • Provide on-site rapid rehousing case management and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Engage in street outreach activities and assist in determining eligibility for services.
  • Participate in the annual Point in Time Count and other community homeless services efforts.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with valid registration and insurance.
  • Ability to pass background, DMV, and reference checks.
  • Willingness to make at least a one-year commitment to the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social services or outreach work.
  • Familiarity with housing stability case management.
