About the position

The Shelter Manager at Homeless Action Sonoma, Inc. (H.A.S.) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring compliance with agency rules, and providing support to both staff and clients. This role is critical in managing the frontlines of homelessness in Sonoma Valley, focusing on compassion, safety, and effective service delivery to vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shelter, ensuring completion of daily tasks and project objectives.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with the Director to provide development and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure adherence to agency rules and guidelines by staff and clients.
  • Address community issues and ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Review written violations and incident reports for appropriateness and follow-up.
  • Maintain knowledge of fire and safety standards to ensure a safe environment.
  • Support community engagement by developing relationships with other service providers.
  • Write monthly schedules that achieve project objectives without unnecessary overtime.
  • Role model positive, professional behavior in communication and appearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school, or two to four years of job-related non-profit experience.
  • Experience in supervising staff and managing community-based projects.
  • Good working knowledge of social service agencies, including local government and federal.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Basic knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual abilities in Spanish.
  • Experience in management of a residential facility.
