About the position

The Shelter Operations Manager at the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Enhanced Shelter in South Tacoma. This role involves ensuring a safe environment for program participants, supervising staff, and coordinating activities within the shelter. The manager will also provide emergency coverage, enforce rules, and maintain communication with various stakeholders, including clients and community organizations. This position is essential in supporting the mission of LIHI to provide innovative solutions to homelessness and advocate for housing justice.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise, and train staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Complete staff evaluations addressing performance concerns and setting goals.
  • Troubleshoot client issues and work collaboratively to determine solutions.
  • Provide an on-site presence to monitor the Enhanced Shelter and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinate activities and maintenance of community spaces and tiny houses.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of clients, deterring theft and violence.
  • Enforce rules and guest policies, assisting clients with move-in and move-out paperwork.
  • Maintain logs and complete incident reports, monitoring individuals entering and exiting the property.
  • Provide outreach and information to neighborhood organizations and clients.
  • Perform light maintenance and janitorial duties in common areas and grounds.
  • Assist in preparing vacant units and maintaining inventory of supplies.
  • Respond to client concerns and emergencies, being on-call as needed.
  • Work with community groups and government entities on outreach and tours.
  • Organize training for staff and clients on relevant topics.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience in property management or human services.
  • Experience providing services to low-income and/or homeless individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with diverse populations.
  • One year of experience leading a program or project with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to supervise staff and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong sense of ethics and professional boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and working vehicle.
